As the season continues for the Conestoga crew team, the rowers raced in the Philadelphia City Championships over the weekend and won several medals.
The team racing began with qualifying time trial heats during the morning. Freshman Tyler Simpson and junior Quentin Backstrom raced the boys JV B double and placed twelfth. All other boats either raced and moved on to the finals or simply only had a final.
The boys freshman double with Dan Cancelmo and Nick McNamara started the afternoon racing with a bronze medal win. The girls novice quad raced next and won silver with freshmen Katherine Dempsey, Emma Holt, Maddie Beirne and Angela Sarkisian. Freshmen Amy Connell, Kelly Johnson, Isabel Geddes and Anna Zibinski won gold in the girls freshman quad event while in the next race, boys novice quad freshmen Niall Carlson, Steven Devlin, Max Malarkey and Hanan Zisling won silver. The girls JV double with juniors Molly Dudrear and Brianna Kaufmann won bronze as did the boys JV A double with freshman Tyler Simpson and sophomore Richard Stone. Juniors Liesel Johantgen, Lara Dorfman, Mary Kate Lyons and Maddie Amsterdam won more gold medals in the girls JV quad event. The boys JV quad won silver with sophomores Jared Ingersoll, Andrey Lanahan, Nathan Leibowitz and junior Brian Kane.
In the girls lightweight quad race, sophomores Katie Groves, Emer Ryle, Sophie Bodek and Liz Klotzbach won gold. Senior Kelly Murphy placed fourth in the girls varsity single. In the varsity doubles, senior girls Ali Siegele and Nicole DeStefano won gold while senior boys Stetson Miller and Larry Caldwell crossed the finish line in sixth place. Yet another set of gold medals were hung around the necks of the girls varsity quad sophomore rowers Annie Graf, Maddy Tessier-Kay, Rebecca Simonetti and Meagan Hudson. The boys varsity quad with seniors Ben Morosse, Cuyler Hamilton, Michael DiLucca and Nick Nalbone ended the day with silver medals.
